Barcelona gluten free options have come a long way over the past ten years! It’s easier than it’s ever been to find a gluten-free bakery, pizzeria, restaurant with gluten-free options marked on the menu, and markets with substantial gluten-free sections. I’m highlighting Barcelona’s gluten-free bakeries and pizzas in this post but will also be covering the supermarkets with the best selection of gluten-free products and places for gluten-free ice cream, dessert, etc. in another post.
Barcelona Gluten Free Bakeries
Casa Lupita Gluten Free Bake Shop
Casa Lupita is a Barcelona gluten free bakery and bake shop located in the El Clot area of Barcelona that specializes in cakes (including a killer carrot cake!), cupcakes, cookies, scones, etc. The name Lupita is a nod to the owners’ little dog Lupita, who can often be found at the bakery. The shop also offers items like sandwiches, bagels, biscuits, cheesecakes, and quiches for pre-order. While not everything at the bake shop is both vegan and gluten-free, Casa Lupita does offer vegan gluten-free cakes and bakery items by pre-order.
Location: Carrer del Coronel Sanfeliu, 10, bajos
Glutery Gluten Free Bakery
Located in the heart of the Gracia neighborhood, Glutery is a tiny gluten-free bakery that offers mostly sweet items like brownies, pastries, cake, and pie plus a small range of empanadas, savory focaccia, and pizza slices. The bakery normally has between 5-7 different sweets on offer, savory empanadas with between 5-6 kinds of filling, and a couple of different pizza slice options (more like focaccia pizza with one square piece). They aren’t too far from the Mercat
Location: Carrer del Torrent de l’Olla, 85
Jansana Gluten Free Bakery (Eixample)
Jansana is a fantastic gluten-free bakery in the Mutaner area of Eixample on Carrer Balmes. They offer a great selection of bread and baguettes-both white, seeded, and whole grain or partially whole grain at reasonable prices. They also make fantastic pastries, donuts, butter cookies, focaccia pizza, and quiches and normally have a selection of very pretty, elegant, colorful fruit pastry items at the rear counter, as well as several gluten-free gelato options. The bakery is also a cafe with a seating area inside just past the counter, so this is a great place to stop and enjoy breakfast or a treat and a coffee.
Location: Carrer de Balmes, 106
La Consciente Obrador Gluten-Free & Vegan Bakery
This is a Barcelona gluten free and vegan bakery and cafe located in Eixample, within an equal distance (a few minutes’ walk) from the Urgell and Rocafort metro stations. The gluten-free bread and bagels here are AMAZING. The texture and density are the best I experienced in Barcelona. As someone who is used to gluten-free bakeries making more of an effort to match normal bread consistency as well as to have some healthier, whole-grain or mixed-grain options I fell in love with La Consciente’s soft, dense, chewy, and filling breads, rolls, and bagels at first-bite.
Their nummy mostly plant food-based and vegan treats are also delish (brownies, raw food cookies, donuts, etc.). Additionally, La Consciente offers fresh pizza dough (uncooked) that you can take home and put in your freezer until you’re ready to use it as well as a variety of other items that can be pre-ordered or collected while supplies last (it’s recommended to get there early in the day if you want to have your pick of that day’s freshly baked items).
Location: Carrer de Vildomat, 134
Manduca Gluten Free Corner
Located next to the Santa Catarina market, Manduca Gluten Free Corner is a great place to stop for coffee and a gluten-free or vegan treat baked treat or cold-pressed juice, or pick up something healthy and fresh to go. Besides the sweet and baked treats at Manduca, they also offer a rotating menu of salads and healthy items that can be combined to make a great meal including veggies, carbs, protein items, etc. for takeaway.

Gluten-Free Pizza in Barcelona
There are quite a few good options for gluten-free pizza in Barcelona these days (unlike just a few years ago). Wherever you are in the city, there’s probably a place that offers gluten-free pizza within a mile to a mile and a half.
Grosso Napolitano Pizza (Multiple Locations)
My personal favorite gluten-free pizza in Barcelona is from Grosso Napoletano. I think their crust is the absolute best (both soft and a little bit chewy with a little bit of crustiness around the edges) and their tomato sauce and toppings are better and more flavorful than many other ‘Italian’ pizzerias. This is a pizzeria that has both regular gluten pizza locations as well as gluten-free pizzeria locations. They have pizzerias all over Spain, including two gluten-free pizzeria locations in Barcelona in the Eixample and Viladecans C.C. neighborhoods.
Eixample Location: Carrer de València, 234
Viladecans C.C. Location: Carretera de la Vila, 90
Local Pizza
I found the crust at Local Pizza to be quite soft, white, and bland (they aren’t using a blend of flours for texture purposes it feels like almost all rice flour). There was no chewiness or crunchiness to the crust, the tomato sauce tasted like it was out of a can with nothing added (no garlic or herbs). Overall it’s not super flavorful or what I’d normally expect from a pizza place with such good reviews, but if you are just looking for a decent gluten-free pizza that isn’t made on a frozen crust this still hits the spot. I’d recommend adding toppings that have a lot of flavor to make up for the bland crust and sauce :).
Location: Carrer de l’Argenteria, 27
Messie Gluten-Free Pizza & Restaurant (Multiple Locations)
Messie is a 100% gluten-free restaurant that is free of cross-contamination so celiacs can rest in peace and feel safe eating here. They specialize in pizza, pasta, salads, soups, and other casual fare. Their pizza crusts are made from a blend of rice and corn flour and their pasta is house-made. The restaurant has two locations, one in Muntaner and one in Gracia.
Muntaner location: Carrer de Muntaner, 109
Gracia Location: Carrer de Siracusa, 15
If you visit any of these Barcelona gluten free bakeries, cafes, or pizzerias please let me know! I’ll also be adding another post highlighting Barcelona gluten free restaurants and/or eateries with separate gluten free prep areas.
