The Pellegrini family, having worked with grapes and wine since the 1920s in San Francisco, arrived on their Olivet Lane property (then a plum and apple orchard) in the 1970’s. They were among the first in the Russian River to plant pinot noir and chardonnay using heirloom clones. Fifty years later, the winery has some of the oldest still producing pinot noir vine and enjoys a reputation for not only producing some of the most classic Russian River pinot noirs but also growing and providing fruit to some of the Russian River’s most prestigious pinot noir producers (William Selyem, Merry Edwards, etc.).
The winery is currently overseen and operated by Alexia Pellegrini, a fourth-generation Pellegrini family vintner. Alexia recently took the reigns from her father Robert who ran the winery for three decades.
Depending on what day you visit, you may run into Alexia or her father Robert on the property.
Wines
Pellegrini is known for its pinot noirs and chardonnays, especially their vineyard-designate pinot noirs. In addition, they make a sauvignon blanc, rosé, and zinfandel. All of their wines are very good but my personal favorites are their pinot noir rosé and pinot noirs.
Tasting Experiences
Make a Pellegrini ‘picnic lunch’ reservation to enjoy an Artisanal style shared lunch board with locally sourced ingredients (prepared by local Chef Franceso Torre) at one of Pellegrini’s outdoor tables located next to the winery’s gardens.
Or, do a walk-in tasting in Pellegrini’s farm/wine country-chic tasting barn.
*During the pandemic, Pellegrini is limiting group size to 6 and ensuring the maintenance of proper distance between groups.
