Villa Tiboldi sits perched at the top of a hill, amidst rolling hills and surrounded by vineyards in the Roero-Langhe region of Piemonte. The Roero lies between Langhe and Monferrato, in the northeast corner of the Cuneo province and is known best for the Arneis wines grown and produced there.
This spectacular villa is just a mile from the picturesque village of Canale, a popular destination for those visiting the Roero hills to visit wineries and enjoy the local cuisine. The property consists of three different main buildings (the restaurant, the old villa, and the remodeled hotel portion of the villa) as well as an underground garage and a few separate guest villas.
Just twenty minutes from Barbaresco and thirty minutes from Barolo, Roero may be less famous and carry slightly less prestige than its famous neighbors but is no less worth a visit. This region has achieved increased recognition for its’ excellent white wines, chiefly those made from Arneis, over the past ten to fifteen years.
Getting There
From Alba, the drive to Canale and Villa Tiboldi is 11-13 kilometers or approximately 20 minutes. From Barolo, it’s about 25-30 minutes (you will pass La Morra on the way).
Places to Eat
There is no need to go further than Villa Tiboldi‘s spectacular on-site restaurant, for one of the best meals in the Roero. Owners Patrizia and Roberto Diamante have created a gastronomical oasis-complete with top-notch service, presentation, and ambiance that would not be out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant in a much larger city. Walk the few hundred feet from your room at the Villa, to the restaurant and enjoy a leisurely dining experience without worrying about who will drive home afterward. The restaurant offers an excellent wine list, which includes the full line of Roberto Diamante’s own Malvira wines.

Canale
Villa Tiboldi is technically located in Canale and from the Villa it is just a few minutes drive down to the picturesque city of Canale, which hosts a couple of beautiful churches, an impressive clocktower, and a regional tasting room where you can taste a few local wines or pick up a bottle (hundreds and hundreds of local wine options by the bottle) to take with you.
Wineries to Visit
There are many wineries in the Roero to choose from but here are a few I really liked: Azienda Agricola Giovanni Almondo, Matteo Correggia, Azienda Agricola Bajaj and Cascina Chicco.
